Adamson is now the only undefeated team in UAAP 86 Boys’ Basketball Tournament after scoring a tightly contested victory over National University-Nazareth School, 63-59, at the University of Santo Tomas Quadricentennial Pavillion in Espana, Manila.

The win pushed the Baby Falcons record to 3-0 and placed them atop the standings early in the season.

The San Marcelino-based squad had a blistering start of the game, doubling their foes’ total in the first frame, 18-9.

NU, then, responded in the succeeding canto and eventually stole the lead at the end of the third quarter, 49-50.

With only 1:13 left in the game, Gene Carillo was fouled by NUNS foreign student-athlete Collins Akowe on the break.

Carillo failed to capitalize, missing his shots from the line, but a fastbreak layup by Earl Media off a NUNS turnover gave back the lead to the Baby Falcons, 60-59.

A potential and-1 play from Carillo sealed the game for Adamson, 62-59, despite the free throws not falling once again.

Despite being outrebounded and having 18 less free throws, Adamson dominated NUNS in points off turnovers, registering 28 against their foe’s eight.

Justine Garcia proved to be the linchpin for the Baby Falcons, leading his team with 13 points, two rebounds and three assists. Vince Reyes tallied 11 points and nine rebounds while anchoring the Falcon defense against the Akowe-led NUNS.

The Baby Falcons stake their undefeated record against the University of the East this December 6 at their nest at the Saint Vincent Gym in San Marcelino, Ermita.
