Lady Falcons fall to UP in UAAP 87 Badminton

The Adamson University Lady Falcons faced a tough challenge in the UAAP 87 Women’s Badminton Tournament, suffering a 1-4 defeat against the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum Badminton Hall, October 20.
This loss eliminated Adamson from semifinal contention as the Fighting Maroons notched their third win of the season.
The match opened with a split in the first two singles contests as national team pool member Susmita Ramos showcased her dominance for UP, overpowering Adamson’s Aleyha Villanueva with a decisive score of 21-10, 21-7. However, the Lady Falcons quickly responded, as Abigail Barcelona secured a crucial victory against Kahrene Zapanta, winning 22-20, 21-8 to even the score.
The tide turned in favor of the Fighting Maroons as they clinched the next matches. In the first doubles, the debuting pair of Kimberly Lao and Anielka Paz delivered a strong performance against Jennifer Ondol and Justine Barsona, winning 21-9, 21-11.
With the match already decided, Season 85 Rookie of the Year Anthea Gonzalez rounded out the contest with a convincing victory over Key Fuerte, 21-4, 21-15.
