COPA: Falcon booters show grit in first pro tilt

Adamson’s Men’s Football Team may be new to the professional football scene but the boys in blue and white are slowly proving they belong to the big leagues.

Although their first match against the Davao Aguilas -UMak FC ended in a 2-0 defeat, the Falcon booters showed great resolve, limiting their foes to a scoreless tie at the half.

The San Marcelino team tried to keep up with their matchup, but the pro team’s experience proved too much for the upstart Falcons, who also debuted their new head coach, former Falcon Dalton Digha.

A rainy game day, then, did not stop the Falcons from showing up against another professional club, the Muntinlupa-based Tuloy FC, however, it did not reflect on the scoreboard as it showed a 3-0 shutout for the pros.

Adamson finally showed their talons on their third match, scoring their first goal of the tournament against the Philippine Army, leading to 1-2 score at the half.

A crucial score from Army booter Ricardo Becite, though, quickly popped the team’s aspirations of gaining at least a draw, despite almost limiting their foes scoreless in the second half.

The University’s men’s football team continued to show their mettle, this time against Philippine Football League (PFL) mainstays, Mendiola FC 1991, securing a hard-fought draw last August 19.

With the result, the Falcons continued to prove they can stand toe-to-toe with teams playing in the PFL.

Both sides held each other to a scoreless draw almost throughout the whole game until Falcon booters’ team captain Arjay Buenaobra fired a goal with 85th minute of the game.

The score, though, was spoiled by an equalizer from Mendiola in the dying minutes of the game.

The San Marcelino team will next face Stallion Laguna FC this September 2 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum for the final fixture of their COPA campaign.
