A six-faculty delegation from Adamson University visited SIAS International University in Henan, China last October 26, 2008 to join the host university’s 10th International Cultural Week celebration. Headed by Dr. Servillano T. Marquez, Jr., Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Education, the visit was part of the Memorandum of Agreement for cultural and faculty-student exchange forged in July 2008 between Adamson (represented by VP for Administration Prof. Ana Liza Ragos) and SIAS (represented by Prof. Li Hai Jun, and Dr. Fang Wen Cheng, Director of the International Culture Exchange Department).
Other members of the delegation were Prof. Nenita J. Dimapilis - Cultural Affairs Office Director, Prof. Lorna A. Espeso – Physical Education Department Chairperson, Prof. Ma. Luisa G. Isip – OIC for the Office for Athletics and Recreation and P.E. professors Robert Victorio and Rommel Tilbe.
Dr. Marquez and Prof. Dimapilis gave lectures on Philippine Folk Dances to students of the Opera Department on October 28. Dr. Marquez delivered a lecture on the topic “Philippines – Then and Now” to about 250 international students at the SIAS Auditorium on the same day. This was followed by the whole delegation’s impressive performance, complete with costumes and props, of selected Philippine folk dances.
SIAS International University celebrates the International Culture Week yearly to promote different cultures among their students and to raise the level of awareness and appreciation of different cultures. This is also the time where they can proudly showcase the unique culture of their university.
The visit was a well-coordinated one, with VP Ragos and Dr. Fang Wen Cheng in constant communication every step of the way. Dr. Fang Wen Cheng and his staff assisted the guests during their stay, making sure that they had a great time in the school.
On the Adamson side, the cultural trip was fully supported by University President Fr. Gregg L. Banaga Jr. C.M., Fr. Maximino Rendon, C.M., VP Finance, together with Ms. Aleli Barrios, Comptroller, and Ms. Haydee Kalaw, Budget Office Director. Mrs. Rosalina Cabanag, Director of the Physical Facilities Office, also extended some help.
Meanwhile, two nursing faculty from SIAS are scheduled to arrive in early January 2009 for a three-month training and immersion in the College of Nursing as part of the faculty exchange deal stipulated in the abovementioned MOA.
