Adamson University wrapped up its UAAP 87 Women’s Volleyball campaign with a convincing 25-13, 25-21, 25-18 sweep of the University of the Philippines on Sunday, April 28, at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

The Lady Falcons relied on a total team effort to notch their third win in their last four matches, capping a turnaround that saw them improve to a 6-8 record—a three-game leap from their 3-11 finish in Season 86.

With the win, Adamson tied UP at 6-8 but secured the higher ranking at fifth place due to the straight-sets victory.

Shaina Nitura, who capped her record-setting rookie season, contributed 22 points on 18 attacks along with nine digs and six receptions. But rather than focusing on her personal milestones, Nitura credited the team’s chemistry for the victory. Nitura finished the season with 371 total points, placing here atop epic names that graced the UAAP taraflex.

“Ang pinakahighlight ko this year is yung panalo namin ngayon kasi talagang teamwork yung nangyari kanina,” said Nitura, who finished Season 87 with multiple UAAP scoring records under her belt.

Adamson set the tone early, dominating the opening set with aggressive serving and consistent attacking. In the second frame, despite a UP rally that trimmed a large Adamson lead, the Lady Falcons maintained their composure, leaning on their steady offense and floor defense to take a two-set advantage.

Adamson broke away in the third set after UP briefly led, stringing together a 5-0 run anchored by UP’s errors and timely attacks from graduating opposite spiker Mayang Nuique. From there, the Lady Falcons never looked back, clinching the match with strong execution down the stretch.

Nuique provided crucial support for the Adamson offense, posting 13 points on an efficient 13-of-22 attacking clip alongside six excellent digs, while Frances Mordi chipped in 11 points and six excellent receptions.

Rookie setter Fhei Sagaysay also turned in a steady performance with 17 excellent sets and four points.

Lady Falcons head coach JP Yude expressed his pride in the team’s progress, noting the importance of their growing chemistry heading into future seasons.

“We’re grateful that for next year, we have grassroots players continuing the camaraderie. This journey doesn’t end here,” Yude said.

“Kailangan pang [tumaas ang level ng team para hindi tulad ng dati] na [sinasabing] Adamson lang ‘yan. Ngayon, ‘Ay, Adamson yan.’”

Aside from Nuique, attacker Ayesha Juegos and middle blocker Jen Villegas have also played their final game for the Lady Falcons.
