At Adamson University, every day is a chance to learn something new — and that includes learning to speak a new language.

In a bold step toward internationalization, the university’s Languages Department and Center for Language Learning (CLL) have introduced Online French Language Program, designed to equip students with valuable linguistic skills necessary for global competence.

Spoken in 29 countries and recognized as the official language of international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), European Union (EU), and the Olympics, the French language was chosen as a program to launch.

The program is the result of strategic partnerships with the Alliance Française de Manille, the French Embassy, and the efforts of Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Rosula S.J. Reyes. These collaborations allow the university to host cultural events, conduct official language exams such as the Diploma in French Language Studies (DELF), and offer study-abroad opportunities.

At the outset, the online French course welcomed 18 students, meeting its initial enrollment target. Open to all language-interested learners, the class is scheduled every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (TTHS) from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, with each session lasting two hours.

The fee of this 30-hour short course is set at P5,500 for online and P6,500 for blended sessions.

Following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), this introductory course provides students with the basics including greetings, grammar, time-telling, common vocabulary words and phrases, and basic conversation. It also includes French cultural orientation. The pool of instructors is certified by the Alliance Française to ensure authentic and effective language education.

Beyond the basics, the program aspires students’ learning integration through interactive activities like role-playing, multimedia resources, and conversations with native speakers. Furthermore, the department also plans to offer French as an elective course across college programs that currently do not include a foreign language class in their curriculum.

The university’s Languages Department currently offers courses in Japanese (Nihongo), Mandarin Chinese, and French. Additional languages may be offered upon request, depending on student interest and the availability of qualified instructors.

As Adamson University continues to expand its academic horizons, the French Language Program stands as a testament to its commitment to international engagement one conversation at a time.
