Adamson University achieved a significant milestone this year, emerging as the top-performing school in the November Pharmacists Licensure Examination (PHLE). Adding to this honor, Katrina Loretizo, a 23-year-old native of Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, secured an impressive fifth place among the topnotchers.
Katrina's academic excellence was evident early on, as she consistently earned top marks throughout her schooling. Her dedication and intelligence followed her into college, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, solidifying her reputation as a diligent and high-achieving student.
Despite her remarkable accomplishments, Katrina faced the weight of high expectations from herself and others. She acknowledged that while this pressure was challenging, it ultimately motivated her to push her limits and achieve excellence.
Grace under pressure; staying goal-oriented
Katrina, though, saw pressure not as a hindrance but as a driving force to continue striving for her goals.
“For me, this pressure is good. Instead of being afraid to face these [challenges], I’m more motivated because I know this is not only for other people but also for myself,” she shared.
In addition, balancing external expectations with personal goals is crucial for Katrina. While she values the support and encouragement of others, she emphasizes staying true to her aspirations.
“I think if you want to achieve something, you have to be very specific about it, and be very specific [about] the ways and how you want to achieve it,” she advised, also pointing out that defining clear goals has been instrumental in helping her stay focused and purposeful.
Katrina’s journey exemplifies the art of balancing dual roles. As a national athlete specializing in rhythmic gymnastics, she has competed since high school, earned a bronze medal in the Southeast Asian Games 2019, and placed top 8 in the Southeast Asian Games 2023. Managing the demands of both academics and athletics has been a formidable challenge, requiring precise time management and steadfast dedication. For her, academics and sports are equally important, and the satisfaction of pursuing both her passions is what drives her forward.

“When I first started Pharmacy, wala pa akong masyadong idea kung ano talaga pinasukan ko. Over the years, I have learned to love it and have a passion for pharmacy. So, at this point, hindi lang siya as a profession for me but also a passion,” she explained.
Her success in the board exams stemmed from her dedication, sacrifices, and deep sense of responsibility. She credits her achievements to finding strategies that align with her capabilities and environment, emphasizing that success is unique to each individual. She shares This lesson with others who seek her advice: trust in one’s strengths and tailor efforts to what works best for someone’s strength.
Do your best; love what you do
“There’s no exact formula for passing or topping the board exams. You just have to know yourself—acknowledge your weaknesses as well as your strengths,” Katrina shared.
For Katrina, embracing one’s unique path and focusing on personal strengths are crucial to success. She believes that navigating challenges with patience and self-awareness leads to fulfillment.
“Every path is different, and patience is needed in times of despair,” she reminded herself during difficult moments,” she said. “Since everybody is different, we all deal with things in our own way. It’s important to find and practice study habits that work best for you.”
Katrina also highlighted the value of wholehearted dedication to every endeavor.

“I know this will be challenging for a lot of students, but you have to love every subject and module, even if it’s hard,” she said.
Her board exam journey also taught her that studying half-heartedly only makes the process more difficult. She approached her review with unwavering commitment, understanding that mastering concepts requires effort and emotional resilience.
“Initially, hindi ko talaga naisip na it would be possible for me to top or be in the top-notchers list. But I told myself, ‘nandito na ako,’” she shared, demonstrating her determination to give her best effort.
Despite her consistent excellence, Katrina humbly admitted that she made mistakes along the way, viewing them as opportunities for growth.
She acknowledged that academic pursuits come with numerous challenges—overcoming obstacles, managing life’s demands, and solving problems. Yet, her mindset played the most vital role in her journey.
With resilience, focus, compassion, and a growth-oriented perspective, Katrina empowered herself to rise above difficulties and ultimately achieve her goal of becoming a board exam top-notcher.
