Alumni from Adamson University’s Pharmacy programhave achieved a significant milestone with the publication of their research paper on an international journal.

Syrine Faith Diño, Alia Denise Edu, Ralph Gean Francisco, and Emmanuel Gutierrez, together with their faculty co-researchers Pharmacy Dean Assoc. Prof. Perlita Crucis and Ms. April Mergelle Lapuz had their study titled "Optimization of Immediate-Release Cilostazol Tablets Using Quality by Design (QbD) Approach" published on the Philippine-American Academy of Science & Engineering.

The study focuses on improving the formulation of cilostazol tablets, a medication used to treat peripheral arterial disease. Employing the principles of Quality by Design (QbD), the researchers addressed the drug’s delayed absorption in the gastrointestinal tract.

Among the trial formulations developed, one exhibited a marked improvement in disintegration time and solubility, showcasing the effectiveness of combining microcrystalline cellulose and crospovidone as disintegrants.

This breakthrough points to Adamsonians’ pursuit of innovative capacity their commitment to advancing pharmaceutical science. The full research article is accessible through scienggj.org/2024-special-issue-37/.
