The Adamson Pep Squad are back to the UAAP Cheerdance Competition podium after their karaoke-inspired performance landed them a first runner up finish for the league’s 87th season, December 1, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
Earning a total score of 679.5 points, this finish marks their sixth podium finish and the team’s best since 2021 when they finished as bridesmaids with a country-themed routine.
The San Marcelino-based cheerers’ six-minute routine celebrated iconic karaoke hits like “Breathless” by The Corrs, “Dancing Queen” by ABBA, and “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor.
Adamson’s performance stayed true to their tradition of colorful and quirky elements that appealed to everyone present in the venue as the Jam Lorenzo-mentored squad fulfilled their goal of enhancing the entertainment value of their piece, which they showcased to the Adamson community last November 27.
“Since 2016, I’ve set a benchmark for Adamson: every time we perform, everyone expects vibrant, fun, and relatable routines,” Lorenzo said in a previous interview. “Last year, we focused on difficulty, while this year, we’re emphasizing quantity and quality, playing to our strengths.”
Lorenzo, after their victory, acknowledged the hard work and sacrifices made throughout the season, including the challenges in team dynamics. He pointed out the constant changes in personnel each year due to graduations and entry of new members, also revealing that his current 35-man crew, 25 of whom are competing.
