Marlon Dasig and Roberto Roldan led Adamson University to a historic 2-1 victory over University of Santo Tomas (UST) on Sunday, marking the Soaring Falcons' first win in the UAAP Collegiate Men’s Football Tournament since Season 81.
The win, which came at the UP Diliman Football Stadium, was Adamson’s first in over five years. Their last victory came on April 14, 2019, when they defeated UST 1-0 in Season 81.
Dasig, a native of Dipolog City, opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a penalty awarded after UST’s Sam Alegre fouled him inside the box.
Roldan then increased Adamson’s advantage in the 36th minute with a well-placed strike, giving the Soaring Falcons a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the half.
Adamson head coach Darlton Digha expressed pride for his players who are coming off two defeats where they conceded a total of 13 goals.
“All the credit goes to the players. It’s not easy coming from eight losses, especially after conceding 13 goals in two games in the second round,” he said.
“The players showed heart today, and that’s what I want to see -- persistence and the will to fight, even when we're at the bottom.”
The Soaring Falcons, though, faced adversity in the second half as UST took advantage of defender KC Napili being sent off in the 71st minute, scoring a late goal in the 80th minute.
Adamson held on for the win, though, managed to hold on amid a late-game pressure from the Golden Booters.
The Falcons will try to match their win total from Season 81 in their upcoming game as they get tested by league leaders Ateneo de Manila University this November 14 at the same venue.
