Big game from Apag not enough as Lady Falcons falls to top-seed NU in Women’s Basketball

The Lady Falcons failed to continue their winning ways as they succumbed to undefeated National University, 53-72, in the second round of the UAAP 87 Women’s Basketball Tournament, earlier today at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

Cheska Apag was the lone bright spot for Adamson that recorded a 28.6% shooting clip from the field, and only five conversions from beyond the arc.

In the post-game interview, NU head coach Aris Dimaunahan lauded the Lady Falcons and head coach Ryan Monteclaro for their performance in the tournament that eventually led them to gatecrash to this season’s Final Four.

“For a new program, and a young coach like me, there’s always a goal and I would love to bring Adamson to that level where we can dominate the women’s division. It’s something I’m really looking forward to kasi you want to achieve bigger things, especially with my Alma mater,” Monteclaro reacted, also revealing he was flattered by Dimaunahan’s words.

Although the former King Falcon admitted that they were outworked by the Lady Bulldogs, he remained upbeat for his team.

“I told the players na good thing God is still in our favor kasi he still gives us chances and we’re not yet out. I told them we’re not yet done; we’re just starting.”

Apag registered 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, four rebounds, one assist and one steal to lead her team that went down to an 8-4 card, placing them at solo third, two games behind University of Santo Tomas (UST).

Kim Limbago also added seven markers, six boards, three dimes and one steal, while Angela Alaba had seven points and six rebounds.

The San Marcelino-based squad will continue their campaign against UST on November 16 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
