The University’s Men’s Football Team displayed commendable defensive effort but were edged out by the University of Santo Tomas with a narrow 0-1 loss in their UAAP Season 87 Collegiate Men’s Football Tournament clash on October 13 at the UP Diliman Football Stadium in Quezon City.
Despite UST's control over possession for much of the match, the Falcons’ backline held firm, successfully limiting the Growling Tigers’ offensive chances throughout the game. The gap was also the least that the San Marcelino-based crew allowed this season.
Adamson’s disciplined defensive line kept UST at bay until the 67th minute when substitute Jan Patrick Baito capitalized on a free kick following a foul by Mark Christian Ricario.
Baito’s left-footed strike broke the deadlock and proved to be the match-winner.
While the Falcons struggled to find scoring opportunities, they showcased resilience in holding off UST’s attacks. Adamson’s goal-scoring drought continued, leaving them searching for their second goal and first points of UAAP 87.
Adamson will look to finish their first-round campaign positively when they face the De La Salle Green Booters this Thursday at 4:00 p.m., at the same venue.
