Another heartbreak for San Marcelino as the Soaring Falcons fell flat, resulting in a 72-76 overtime loss against Far Eastern University in their second-round opener of the UAAP 87 Men's Basketball Tournament, October 12, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
The Falcons had a bit of a tough road to travel on in the fourth quarter as FEU’s Jorick Bautista managed to clutch the whole wave and turn the tides to his side with his monumental shooting, including a triple that locked the scores at 58 all.
Ced Manzano had a chance to seal the deal for Adamson in the last few seconds but failed to tip the ball over the rim, which forced the match to extend to overtime.
Monty Montebon, who led the way in scoring with 17 points for the San Marcelino crew, got his act together late midway in the final stretch, flaunting back-to-back triples in an attempt to cruise past foes from Morayta and locked the scores at 72-74 with only 4.5 seconds remaining on the clock.
However, a foul by Ced Manzano on Jorick Bautista safely placed FEU, allowing him to cash in on the charity stripe and sink a pair of freebies to seal the game at 72-76.
AJ Fransman also delivered a prime performance, chiming in 11 markers.
Now marking three consecutive losses on their slate, the Soaring Falcons will attempt to redeem themselves on October 19 as they face reigning titlists De La Salle University at the University of Santo Tomas Quadricentennial Pavilion.
