It was another defensive masterclass for the Lady Falcons in the UAAP 87 Women's Basketball Tournament as they locked down University of the East en route to a 63-51 victory, October 6 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
The win led them to a 5-2 record to end the first round -- their best in more than a decade. It was back in UAAP 75 in 2012 when the April Peñaranda-led Adamson team finished third before losing to second-seeded La Salle in the semis.
“I’m very happy with how the first round went for us. It’s all about the effort of the players.,” head coach Ryan Monteclaro, said, lauding his team’s performance.
“It’s about how they execute [and] how they respond to all the things we’re trying to achieve. I told them that with the win today, they’re putting themselves in a position to succeed,” he added.
Adamson came out in the first quarter with guns blazing from the three-point line, pacing them to establish a 41-21 gap at the half.
UE tried to mount a comeback in the third frame as their defense forced the Lady Falcons into turnovers, but the girsl in blue and white maintained their composure and zoomed into a 9-0 run to begin the fourth, 56-37, which eventually sealed the game.
Kim Limbago's 10 points led the balanced scoring for Adamson that fielded all of their 16 players. Angela Alaba added 10 markers, while Kemi Adeshina filled the stat sheet with seven points, 11 boards, three blocks, one assist and one steal.
