The Baby Falcons finally ended their losing slump at five games and nailed their first triumph of the season at the expense of the University of the Philippines Integrated School, 85-70, at the UAAP 87 Junior High School Boys Basketball Tournament, September 28 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
The victory comes after an 11-game losing streak that spans last season when the event was just a demonstration event.
“Aminin ko man, there's pressure [...] pero part naman yan eh. Ang problem is, hindi ko pwedeng iparamdam yung pressure sa bata because pag na-pressure yung mga bata, babalikan na kami niyan,’’ Adamson head coach Alex Barrera said during the post-game interview.
“Ngayon, kailangan ko lang i-release [ang pressure], then training kami everyday,” he continued.
Adamson played an airtight defense early in the opening period, smothering their Diliman-based foes and clinching a lead for their side, 23-16.
The San Marcelino crew then unleashed a 10-0 run in the second quarter, capitalizing on turnovers of UPIS.
With momentum on their side, the team continued to make strides in the first half and never looked back, even posting their biggest lead at 22 points.
“[We'l]l try our best sa second round na makakuha kami ng more wins. Yun lang naman yung lagi kong ina-emphasize sa mga bata. Magtrabaho muna kayo, then baka sa dulo, ‘yun may result,” the former Soaring Falcon power forward said.
“Siguro ito na yung start. I-remind ko lagi yung mga bata na ito na siguro yung mamulat kayo na winning culture,” he added.
Edison Jordan tallied an all-around performance to lead his team with 19 points, six rebounds, and five steals, while Chrys Gomez added 17 markers.
The Baby Falcons will aim for a back-to-back win against the unblemished University of the East on October 6, at the same bayside arena. ACM
