A group of students from the College of Pharmacy, along with their faculty co-researchers, have successfully published their research article, "Health Care Access and Quality of Life of Community-Dwelling Senior Citizens in Pampanga, Philippines."
The research team consisted of Ms. Maria Niña Ebrada, Ms. Precious Kaila Legaspi, Ms. Ann Dreyko Olea, and Ms. Yessamin Quimen, under the guidance of Dr. Rogie Royce Carandang and Dr. Kevin Jace Miranda.
The study, which explores the healthcare access and quality of life of senior citizens in Pampanga, was published in the Gerontology & Geriatric Medicine section under Sage Publishing.
It sheds light on critical aspects of elderly healthcare, aiming to improve services and support for senior citizens in the region.
“This study examined the association between healthcare access and quality of life (QOL) among senior citizens in Pampanga, Philippines [and] conducted a cross-sectional study among 410 community-dwelling senior citizens aged 60 and above,” the research abstract said.
The findings show that “Filipino senior citizens in Pampanga demonstrated high healthcare access and moderate QOL” and underline the “importance of healthcare access in enhancing senior citizens’ QOL, particularly regarding accessibility and affordability.”
