Caloy Yulo stamps golden legacy with double Olympic triumph in Paris

Carlos Yulo has once again proven his otherworldly talent on the global stage.  

The Filipino gymnast, a proud alumnus of Adamson University, etched his name into the record books by securing two gold medals at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, solidifying his place in gymnastics history. 

Yulo captivated the world with his flawless performance in the men's floor exercise final, earning a score of 15.000 and his first Olympic gold on August 3.  

This historic victory marks the Philippines' first gymnastics medal and its second Olympic gold, following Hidilyn Diaz's triumph in weightlifting at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.  

Tokyo 2020 champion Artem Dolgopyat of Israel took the silver (14.966), and Great Britain's Jake Jarman claimed the bronze (14.933). 

He continued to dazzle by clinching his second gold medal, this time in the men's vault apparatus event, scoring an average of 15.116 from two routines. His first vault, a stunning 15.433, set the stage for victory, followed by a solid 14.800 in his second attempt.  

Armenia's Artur Davtyan secured silver (14.966), and Great Britain's Harry Hepworth took bronze (14.949). 

Caloy finished his Junior High School education at Adamson through the University’s agreement with the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP). He then accepted a scholarship from Japan in 2016 and trained there to hone his skills further. 

He returned to Adamson in 2019 after his victory in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championship, where he was greeted with overwhelming support from students and faculty alike at the  

The Basic Education Department's grounds were filled with cheers as the then 19-year-old gymnast revisited his Adamsonian roots.  

With Caloy’s victory, Adamson beamed with pride and joined the whole Filipino nation in celebrating Caloy’s present and future feats.
