A player from the Gilas Pilipinas Youth team has joined the Soaring Falcons as former Far Eastern University guard Renzo Competente has transferred to Adamson after initially committing to the UST Growling Tigers.

Competente joins Fil-Maori guard Mikara Nepe and Fil-Am guards Cade and Austin Ronzone as Adamson’s latest recruits.

He was utilized sparingly in his rookie season with FEU, only logging just less than 85 minutes in the 12 games he hit the hardcourt, averaging 1.5 points on 21% shooting from the field.

Before suiting up for the Morayta squad, the product of Citrus Valley High School posted 11.7 markers on 44% shooting for Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA U18 Championship held in Iran in 2022.

The 20-year-old was reported to have moved to UST to be with his Gilas teammate Zain Mahmood early this year but eventually ended up in the Falcons’ Nest.

Competente’s three-point shooting is a big boost for the Soaring Falcons and head coach Nash Racela’s perimeter-centric approach in offense bannered by the duo of Matty Erolona and Mathew Montebon.

He is already playing for the San Marcelino squad in their pre-season campaign at the Asia Basket International Tournament, where they are already in the semi-finals after sweeping the elimination round and routing the Phenom Blue Fire in the quarters.
