ICES hosts Summer School of Life

The Integrated Community Extension Services (ICES) Office, in collaboration with the Vincentian Center for Social Responsibility (VCSR), successfully hosted the Summer School of Life 2024 on July 8 and 9. 

This two-day event, held at different venues inside the campus, welcomed participants from the university's various partner communities, aiming to provide them with valuable life skills and practical knowledge. 

The opening ceremony on July 8 featured welcome remarks by Dr. Rodil Fadri, VCSR Facilitator Chairman, and an inspirational message from Vice-President for Financial Affairs, Fr. Rafael K. Eloriaga, CM. 

The day's activities included: 

  • Digital literacy training and arts & crafts sessions conducted by the Library Department. 

  • Sessions on personality development, leadership, stress management, and parenting led by the Guidance, Counselling, Placement, and Testing Services Office. 

  • Practical training on the uses and applications of microscopes provided by the Mining Engineering Department. 

On July 9, the second day of the program, participants attended: 

  • A seminar on work values, etiquette, job application techniques, and work motivation led by the Human Resource Management and Development Office. 

  • A workshop on self-awareness and the "secret to success" conducted by the Psychology Department. 

  • The School of Good Governance for Social Development Orientation by ICES. 

  • A color rendering workshop by the College of Architecture. 

  • Basic baking training by the Hospitality Management Department. 

  • A business management workshop by the College of Business Administration. 

  • Household chemicals production training, including dishwashing liquid, fabric conditioner, and powder detergent making, by the Chemical Engineering Department. 

  • Basic carpentry skills development by the Civil Engineering Department. 

  • Digital poster making training by the Computer Engineering Department. 

  • A seminar on electrical wiring, installation, and maintenance by the Electrical Engineering Department. 

  • An AM and PM radio amplifier workshop by the Electronics Engineering Department. 

  • Rag making by the Industrial Engineering Department. 

  • A lecture-demo on basic welding technology by the Mechanical Engineering Department. 

  • A disaster management and preparedness lecture by the College of Nursing. 

  • Day care teachers training by the Education Department. 

The closing ceremony featured testimonies from participants, the awarding of certificates to department chairpersons, and closing remarks by ICES Director Fr. Rowen Carlos, CM. 

The Summer School of Life 2024 not only equipped participants with essential skills but also strengthened the bond between Adamson University and its partner communities, embodying the university's commitment to social responsibility and community development.
