Seven Lady Falcons soar into inaugural PVL Draft

The Lady Baby Falcons are facing another exodus in their UAAP lineup after seven players are set to make their respective jump to the pros.
Outgoing Team Captain Lucille Almonte, starting Libero Karen Verdeflor, Setters Nikka Yandoc and Angelica Alcantara, attackers Antonette Adolfo and Ishie Lalongisip, and middle Bblocker Shai Ancheta have all made the final cut for the first-ever Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Rookie Draft, as per a release last June 19 that featured 47 hopefuls.
Owing to parity around the country’s top volleyball league, the PVL decided to implement a rookie draft and delve away from the common practice of directly hiring players, which remained the norm until last year where several top performers of the then up-and-coming Lady Falcons jumped ship to the pros.
The inaugural PVL rookie draft is slated on July 8, with the draft lottery featuring the four lowest-ranking clubs scheduled this June 24. A draft combine will then follow in the next two days to evaluate potential draftees.
Despite more losses in their lineup, the Lady Falcons are banking on the entry of another batch of upstarts to beef up their lineup highlighted by the trio of former Baby Lady Falcons, namely UAAP 86 Juniors MVP Shaina Nitura, Best Setter Fey Sagaysay and middle blocker MJ del Moral.
