Adamson University Dance Company - Street Senior High School emerged as a force to be reckoned with, clinching the silver medal in the highly anticipated UAAP 86 Street Dance Competition held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on May 29.
AUDC-Street also wowed spectators with a 2000's aesthetics routine but failed to bag a sport at the podium.
University of Santo Tomas (UST) secured a four-peat in the juniors' division and a back-to-back title win in the college division, further solidifying their reputation as a powerhouse in the UAAP street dance scene.
Other notable performances included National University - Nazareth School (NSNU) who clinched the bronze in the high school division, while Far Eastern University (FEU) and University of the Philippines (UP) secured silver and bronze respectively in the college ranks.
The event also included the closing ceremonies for UAAP 86, marking the transfer of hosting rights from University of the East to University of the Philippines, where UP President Angelo Jimenez gave a sneak peak of what to expect for Season 87, teasing it as “Stronger, Better Together.”
Individual athletes were also honored for their outstanding contributions to their respective sports. MVPs Shaina Nitura (Girls' Volleyball), Angelu Gabriel (Softball), and Hussein Lorana (Boys' Athletics) were recognized for their exceptional performances, alongside Rookies of the Year Marjorie Ragudos (Girls' Athletics) and Kent Francis Jardin (Men's Athletics). Nitura and Jardin were also hailed as one of the Athletes of the Year, highlighting their remarkable achievements throughout the season.
Moreover, Adamson University athletes showcased their talent on the international stage, with notable appearances in various competitions. King James "McLing" Reyes and Hussein Lorana represented the country in athletics, while Falcon softbelles Angelu Gabriel, MJ Maguad, Aliza Talisik, and Krisha Cantor proudly donned the Philippine colors in the Softball World Cup and Asian Games.
In a surprising announcement during the event's press conference, the UAAP revealed plans for the introduction of an e-sports competition between the 86 and 87 seasons. This innovative addition would feature NBA2k, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Valorant, further diversifying the UAAP sports landscape.
The league also addressed potential adjustments to player residency rules, revealing a mandatory one-year residency period for transferring athletes, with a deduction of two years from their eligibility. However, the final decision rests with the league's Board of Trustees, who continue to deliberate on the matter.
