The University’s football team faced a close 3-2 defeat against the University of the Philippines, after the latter’s goalkeeper registered a crucial save for his team, in the UAAP 86 Men’s Football Tournament, March 17, at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.

Adamson substitute Carl Mahinay was given a penalty kick in stoppage time after UP defender Charles Lobitaña brought down Dexter Jhon Casing, but the attempt eventually went for naught as UP’s rookie keeper was able to keep the ball from reaching their net.

The match began with UP establishing a commanding lead, scoring three goals in the first half.

However, Adamson fought back with a vengeance in the second frame as skipper Arjay Buenaobra narrowed the deficit with a goal in the 55th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by UP.

Lorent John Jayaon also added another goal in the 68th minute for the boys in blue.

Despite a defeat, the San Marcelino-based team brings with them momentum to try to bounce back in their matches for the second round of competition.
