The Soaring Falcons scored a tense straight-set upset of Ateneo de Manila University, 28-26, 25-22, 30-28, in the UAAP 86 Men’s Volleyball Tournament held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, March 14.

Team captain John Gay and middle blocker Marc Paulino led the San Marcelino-based squad with 16 points apiece.

With the win, the Soaring Falcons, under the guidance of second-year head coach George Pascua, surpassed their previous season's performance, boasting a 3-2 record in the ongoing tournament.

The result also set up a three-way tie among Adamson, Ateneo, and University of Santo Tomas, positioning them in the fourth to sixth places in the standings.

Despite facing a formidable challenge from Ateneo attacker Ken Batas and the Blue Eagles, the Soaring Falcons managed to bounce back from their setback against Far Eastern University with improved composure seen on their plays in the crucial moments of the match.

Adamson nearly had a meltdown in the thid frame as the Batas-led Ateneo tried to mount a comeback, saving multiple match points and even having their own to steal the set.

The Falcons, though, were able to avert disaster and close out their Katipunan-based foes with a double block from Jude Aguilar and Dan Gutierrez, which the Blue Eagles failed to return.

Adamson will lock horns with University of Santo Tomas in their upcoming clash scheduled for Saturday, March 16 at the SMART Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
