Crucial plays marked another victory for the Lady Falcons in the UAAP 86 Softball Tournament as they continue their winning ways, this time, securing a 3-2 escape from the University of the Philippines March 9 at the latter’s home field in Quezon City.
The Lady Falcons maintained their dominance over their fellow-finalists from last season, but it was a hard-fought battle that went down to the wire, with the final play on Adamson's defense sealing the victory after a grueling two-hour and fifteen-minute clash.
The pivotal moments unfolded in the seventh inning, with senior Khrisha Cantor igniting the spark for the reigning 10-time champions. Despite being 0-for-2 at-bat prior to the inning, Cantor delivered a crucial hit to left-center field, setting the stage for the Lady Falcons' late-game heroics.
Jeelyn Pajotal, batting for Madaelene Domaug, capitalized on an error by UP centerfielder Algrace Adajar, and advanced Cantor to put more pressure on the UP defense.
Another miscue, this time on a passed ball by KC Valino, allowed the eventual winning run to cross the plate, giving Adamson a slim lead.
The home side rallied in a last-ditch effort to extend the game into extra innings. With first baseman Martine Francisco and substitute left fielder Laica Atlas on base, Angel Pascual drove an April Minanga pitch to center field, however, Lady Falcons' senior and national team player Alaiza Talisik was able to gather the ball to halt UP's comeback attempt
