The Adamson Lady Falcons soared to a resounding 13-0 triumph over Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP 86 Softball Tournament held February 6 at the UP Diliman Baseball/Softball Field in Quezon City.
With the win, the San Marcelino-based squad clinched their third consecutive win of the season and maintained their unblemished record atop the league table as they pursue an unprecedented 11-peat title reign.
Despite a relatively tight start, Adamson held a 5-0 lead heading into the top of the fourth inning where the Ana Santiago-coached batters showcased their offensive prowess.
The floodgates opened in the fourth frame as Adamson unleashed a barrage of hits, piling on nine runs to firmly assert their will over their opponents and seal the game.
Angelu Gabriel emerged as a standout performer for the Lady Falcons, delivering an impressive three hits on four at-bats, setting the tone for her team's offensive onslaught. Meanwhile, her national team teammate, second baseman MJ Maguad, provided a pivotal spark with a well-timed triple, igniting the explosive fourth-inning surge that left Ateneo reeling.
Pitchers Glory Alonzo and April Minanga, meanwhile, delivered masterful performances to keep the Ateneo offense at bay and preserve a clean sheet for their team.
Adamson will try to end the tournament’s first round with an unblemished record as they go against last year’s runners-up and season home team, UP Fighting Maroons, this March 9.
