Adamson’s baseball team suffered another setback in the UAAP 86 Baseball Tournament after crumbling against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 13-9, February 29, at the University of the Philippines Baseball/Softball Field in Diliman, Quezon City.
The Falcon batters came out swinging, posting five hits that led to a 6-0 lead to end the bottom of the first inning.
Last year’s bronze medalists, though, began to falter in the middle innings of the game as they let UP, the previous season’s runners-up, score in all the succeeding frames punctuated by a seven-run seventh inning.
With the bases loaded, Adamson pitcher Kenneth Delos Santos inadvertently hit UP's LM Basañes, allowing Darren Mayo to score the crucial go-ahead run. Several passed balls then followed, contributing to UP snatching a 10-8 lead.
The Falcon batters then failed to puncture the UP defense until the bottom of the ninth where a spirited comeback only resulted in one run after catcher Nico Alig’s hit was caught by the UP defense, leaving the bases full as the game concluded.
The loss sent Adamson to their second straight defeat after falling to National University in their season opener. The San Marcelino-based team committed seven errors in the game, mostly in their collapse during the seventh inning.
The Falcons next face University of Santo Tomas this March 3 at the same venue.

UP 0 0 0 0 1 2 7 1 1 - 13 9 3
