The Lady Falcons appears to have found their groove as they made quick work of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 25-22, 25-22, 28-26, nailing their first win for the in the UAAP 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament, February 24, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Adamson’s WVT, though, did not have an easy time staving off the Diliman-based squad after being challenged by unforced errors and their foes’ attacking.

Coach JP Yude’s crew managed to build a strong momentum early, cruising past UP and establishing a six-point gap midway the first frame, 20-14.

AdU’s first set triumph was then momentarily delayed after Mayang Nuique’s drop ball landed outside the line. A successful block touch challenge for the Lady Falcons in the same exchange, though, sealed the set for the blue and white.

The Lady Falcons then struggled to close out the second set after committing numerous unforced errors, but Ishie Lalongisip saved the day for her side as her attack pierced through the opposing blockers to cap off the game and put AdU two sets ahead.

“Nagtraining po kasi kami this weekend pinag-planuhan po namin yung game namin para  yung sa game namin ngayon is doon din po kami kukuha ng kumpiyansa para sa mga next game pa namin and alam po namin na may mas more pa kaming maipakita sa mga next game”, said Lalongisip.

The San Marcelino-based squad weathered another late run by the Lady Maroons led by Nina Ytang who scored back-to-back points to tie the match at 20 in the third frame. Both teams then traded attacks with Ytang and Joan Monares leading the Lady Maroons’ offense.

With the game locked in a deuce at 25, Lalongisip uncorked a cross-court attack to send Adamson to match point, 26-25, but was again erased by the UP offense to tie the game.

Nuique, who is one of those tasked to take over for injured middle blocker Lorene Toring, then delivered a running attack to put the Lady Falcons to their fourth match point.

The Adamson coaching staff’s net touch violation challenge on the succeeding Ytang attack was then called successful, giving the victory to the Lady Falcons.

“Nung nag-eensayo kami, sabi ko sa kanila kasi kailangan mas always give your best every time sa pag-training and then para madala natin sa paglalaro. Kanina yun yung nangyari,” shared Yude a first-year UAAP collegiate coach for Adamson.

Lalongisip led Adamson with 11 excellent attacks, 16 excellents digs, and seven excellent receptions, while Nuique contributed nine attacks and two service aces. AA Adolfo also chalked up eleven points.

Adamson will try to keep its momentum going as they take on National University on February 28 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao. Reports from Almira Coleen Montero
