The Basic Education Chorale emerged victorious at the latest Canticle Choral Festival, dethroning the Senior High School (SHS) in a riveting showcase of talent and harmony held at the University Theatre, February 15.
Following the competition's theme, "Mary's Canticle — Leading us to a Profound Renewal of Heart and Faith — A Conversion that is Personal, Communal, and Missionary," the winning ensemble delivered a mesmerizing performance of "O Maria, Ipinaglihing Walang Sala,” a composition by AdU Lay Campus Minister Erick Sta. Maria.
Under the guidance of their Moderator Rachelle Anne Tuazon, the ensemble impressed the judges with their exceptional interpretation, blending, harmony and amassed a 98.4 total.
This triumph marks a significant milestone for the BED Chorale, securing their first Canticle championship since their consecutive wins in 2019.
The celebration culminated in a stirring rendition of their chosen piece, "Salamat, Maria."
The panel of judges comprised esteemed figures in the field of music, including Ateneo Chamber Singers Choir Member Mr. Deniel Gaces; Cavite Diocesan Shrine of St. Augustine Choir Master and Composer Mr. Elliot Eustacio; and London Royal Schools of Music Organ Performance Diploma holder Mr. Alejandro Consolacion II.
The College of Engineering clinched the second spot with 93.7 points, while the College of Business Administration, serving as this year's host, secured the third spot with 83.7 points.
Chorales from different colleges of Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, Liberal Arts, Architecture, and Business Administration, also participated. The Junior High School and Elementary Departments, and Senior High School Department represented the Basic Education Department.
The said competition was open to all AdU students, faculty members, co-academics, and alumni.
University President Fr. Daniel Pilario, CM and Office for Student Affairs Director Atty. Jan Nelin Navallasca graced the event with their presence, while Campus Ministry Director Fr. Nelson Bisco, C.M., delivered welcome remarks for the event.
Canticle Choralefest began in 1981 as a tribute to the 50th golden anniversary of the University. Now on its 44th year, it has become an annual exhibition of musical talents and a testament to Adamson’s commitment to devoting liturgical music to God and Mary, Mother of God – the epitome of all canticles.
