The Lady Falcons stunned pro club Akari Superchargers in a five-set thriller, 25-19, 29-27, 21-25, 23-25, 15-9, to secure the inaugural Akari Cup title, February 7 at the Adamson University Gym.
With the win, Adamson boosted its confidents as the team continues preparation for their incoming campaign in the UAAP 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament slated to begin this February 17.
The young San Marcelino-based team showed maturity well beyond their years as they battled through a grueling five-set showdown against the more experienced Akari squad.
Adamson won the first two sets, erecting a significant lead highlighted by a thrilling 29-27 comeback victory in the second frame.
The JP Yude-mentored squad, though, dropped the third and fourth set that forced a deciding period.
With the two teams exchanging points in the fifth set, the entry of Eloi Aljibe proved to be the turning point for the Lady Falcons as the second-year middle blocker contributed crucial points in a 5-0 surge that sent her team to a 12-7 lead.
As the tension mounted in the decider, it was the timely entry of Eloi Aljibe that proved to be the turning point for Adamson.
Although the run was halted by a quick from former La Salle standout Fifi Sharma, power hits from AA Adolfo and skipper Lucille Almonte sealed the match and the title for Adamson, 15-9.
During the game, a shocking announcement also went around social media as middle blocker Lorene Toring revealed that she will not be able to play her last season for the Lady Falcons due to an ACL injury.
