The University's Girls' Volleyball team continued their remarkable run in the UAAP Season 86 as they secure their eighth consecutive victory, sweeping De La Salle Santiago Zobel School with a commanding 25-13, 25-10, 25-12 triumph last January 15 at the Adamson Gym in San Marcelino.
The Lady Baby Falcons faced some resistance in the initial stages of the match as the spikers from Zobel showcased solid net defense. Adamson, however, shifted their plays and quickly turned the game to their favor.
Leading by a slim margin of 13-9, the JP Yude-mentored squad capitalized on the attack errors and defensive lapses of the De La Salle punctuated by skipper Shaina Nitura's crucial hit that propelled them to a 17-9 advantage, and a 12-3 to close out the third set.
Yude lauded his team's performance while also admitting that some of his wards are nursing minor injuries that even led some to miss practices.
He also mentioned that his team still had room for improvement, especially in defensive consistency, despite being on top of the tournament’s standing with a 9-0 record.
Setter Felicity Sagaysay towed her team to needing only one win for another playoff appearance as she orchestrated the Adamson offense, finding open spots in the opponent's floor defense that allowed Nitura to drill attacks over their foe’s defense.
The second set also saw the Baby Lady Falcons’ bench show their wares as substitute playmaker Jennel Arasan and opposite hitter Mishka Estrada, led the team to a 2-0 advantage.
Adamson will try to score a sweep over reigning titlists NUNS Lady Bulldogs this January 11 at the same venue.
