Adamson welcomes Dr. Arsol Reyes as new VPAA

Dr. Rosula "Arsol" Reyes, officially took on the role of Vice President for Academic Affairs of Adamson University during a ceremony held at the Co Po Ty Hall of the Dr. Carlos Tiu Building, January 4. 

This significant appointment comes just days after the installation of Fr. Daniel Franklin Pilario, CM as the 7th President of the institution. 

Dr. Reyes brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new position, having served as an Associate Professor and Professional Electronics Engineer. With an extensive background in academia and various leadership roles, she is well-equipped to contribute to the academic development of the University.  

She takes over the post previously occupied by Fr. Rock Joseph Enriquez, CM, who held the position in an acting capacity. Fr. Enriquez, meanwhile, was assigned as Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. 

The Vision 

Dr. Reyes, an esteemed academician with a rich history in education, delivered a compelling speech, outlining her commitment to excellence, collaboration, and embracing innovation. 

In her address, Dr. Reyes extended warm greetings to the Adamson University community, emphasizing the importance of peace, solidarity, and hope as the new year unfolds. She expressed her excitement to collaborate with colleagues and follow the leadership of Fr. Pilario, who she lauded for his advocacy for social justice. 

Dr. Reyes echoed Fr. Pilario's call to “give thanks, care deeply, and dare bravely”, emphasizing the need for a humane and just school environment.  

“Let our students be beacons of light for peace and justice, I believe that we are all great administrators and leaders present here. Great people don't put others down, but they always inspire them to be the best vision of themselves,” she said. 

“Let us be among this great people, Jesus is the best model of this: He never pointed out the weaknesses of people, never dwelt on their failures and their shortcomings.” 

The newly installed VP for Academic Affairs conveyed her enthusiasm for becoming a part of the Vincentian Family and Community, emphasizing the significance of the Klasmeyt Culture at the University. 

Drawing from her experiences, Dr. Reyes expressed eagerness to contribute to Adamson's academic environment and outlined three key points: courage in innovation, addressing the impact of AI on education, and challenging conventional views on internationalization for academic quality improvement. 

To end her remarks, Dr. Reyes expressed her commitment to a more inclusive, responsive, and relevant education, where she called upon the Adamson community to walk the less-traveled road, leaving a trail for future generations of  Klasmeyts to follow while making a difference in the world. 

The Visionary 

Dr. Reyes obtained her bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of Santo Tomas in 1977. She then pursued further studies, earning a master's degree in engineering education with a focus on Computer Engineering from the University of the Philippines in 1980. Her academic journey culminated in UST in 1996 with a Doctor of Philosophy in Education degree. Additionally, she completed post-studies at the Asian Institute of Management. 

Throughout her career, Dr. Reyes has made significant contributions to education. She has been an Associate Professor at Ateneo de Manila University since 1996. Her teaching experience also includes roles as an Assistant Professor at the University of Santo Tomas and a Part-time Lecturer at De La Salle University and the Graduate Program of University of St. Louis.

Dr. Reyes held administrative posts as Chairperson of the Electronics, Computer, and Communications Engineering Department at Ateneo de Manila University from 2002-2006 and 2012-2018. and has successfully established academic and research collaborations with international institutions in France, Italy, Taiwan, and Japan. She is also an Incorporator of seven start-up companies and serves as the Chief Operating Officer and Board of Director of SparkSoft Solutions, Inc. 

Her vast professional experience includes serving as an Assessor for the ASEAN University Network (AUN), Coordinator for the Philippine Biomedical Device Innovation Consortium (PBDIC), and Regional Director for the International Association of Jesuit Engineering Schools (IAJES) for the Asia Pacific. 

Dr. Reyes has received prestigious fellowships, including being a Newton-Agham Awardee, Leaders in Innovation Fellow at the Asian Institute of Management and Royal Academy of Engineering, and a Senior Associate at the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy. 

She recently received the 1st Fellow Awardee from the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines on November 25, 2023, and has been a Professorial Chair Awardee at Ateneo de Manila University since 2011.
