Adamson Pep Squad fell just a spot short from the podium of the UAAP 86 Cheerdance Competition, placing fourth in this season’s installment held December 2 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The San Marcelino-based cheerdancers wowed more than 18,000 spectators with their Trolls-themed routine that garnered a total of 665 points, with 81.5 points in tumbling, 78.5 in stunts, 80 in tosses, 80 in pyramids, and 353 in dance. The team in blue and white, though, suffered an eight-point deduction for errors.
The FEU Cheering Squad reclaimed the CDC crown with a total of 702.5 points, followed closely by last season's titlists NU Pep Squad with 697 points. UST had a repeat of their rank last season, placing third with 687 points.
Pep Squad head coach Jam Lorenzo expressed his gratitude to the Adamsonian Community who went out and cheered their hearts out for his wards.
The UAAP 80 CDC champion coach also shared his pride for his team’s dedication, leading them to outdo the 595 points they posted in UAAP 85.
In an earlier interview, he revealed that most of this season’s cheerdancers are new recruits after most of last year’s batch have already graduated.
“First time na mala-lineup is more than half, out of 25. Ang alam ko nasa 13 or 14 yung mga first time magcocompete so sobrang challenging sya for us,” he said, also mentioning the long journey his team took on the way to this season’s CDC.
“Our new recruits arrived mid-July tapos dumaan yung Pep Rally (for UAAP 86), yung halftime performances, and nandyan yung academics tapos iba din yung pressure ng preparations for CDC.”
Adamson last secured a spot on the podium in Season 84 with a silver medal finish, but with the performance this season, there is nowhere to go but to soar higher.
