Apag leads Lady Falcons over UE

A breakout game from Cheska Apag led the Lady Falcons to return to their winning ways as they escape a determined University of the East team, 71-66, in the UAAP 86 Women’s Basketball Tournament held last November 4 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Apag tallied 19 points, three assists, three steals, and two blocks while towing Adamson to improve their record to a 3-7 win-loss card and ending their three-game skid.
Unlike their initial match against UE where they thrashed the latter by 30 points, 71-41, the San Marcelino crew had their foes breathing down their necks the whole game, snatching the lead a couple of times, and even threatening to steal the W.
Recalling their October 15 conquest, Adamson Head Coach Ryan Monteclaro praised UE for their adjustments, also admitting that his wards, composed mostly of newcomers, needed similar games moving forward.
Adamson almost dropped the game in the final frame as UE trimmed their lead to one, 65-64, with a little less than two minutes left. The Lady Warriors, though, failed to capitalize as foreign student athlete Kamba Kone committed a crucial turnover.
Apag and UAAP 85 Mythical Five member Victoria Adeshina seized the opportunity with deciding baskets to give their team a 69-64 cushion with 1:15 left on the game clock.
Minslie Paule provided one last gasp for UE but Adeshina closed the doors for the Recto-based school after making another clutch score with less than 20 seconds remaining.
Adeshina finished the game with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals, while Elaine Etang and Angela Alaba added 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for Adamson.
The Lady Falcons will look to get another victory as they face off against Ateneo de Manila University this November 8 at the same venue.
