Defense was again name of the game in the second-round UAAP 86 Men’s Basketball match between the Soaring Falcons and the FEU Tamaraws, but unlike their first match, Adamson scored a wire-to-wire 63-54 victory last October 29 at the SMART Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
Adamson zoomed past their foes in the first frame, scoring the first 11 points of the game while holding FEU scoreless in the first seven minutes of the match.
The Soaring Falcons scored the game's first 11 points while holding the Tamaraws scoreless in the first seven minutes and two seconds before Jorick Bautista made their first basket with 2:58 left, making it 11-2.
Adamson then continued to put their feet on the gas as they ended the half with a fifteen-point lead, 40-25.
The San Marcelino-based squad held a comfortable 56-40 lead entering the fourth quarter but stops from FEU eventually reduced the gap to six at 60-54 after back-to-back three-point conversions from LJay Gonzales and Xyrus Torres.
Crucial free throws from Matty Erolon and a missed trey from Gonzales, though, swayed the game’s conclusion to the side of the Falcons, improving their record to a 4-5 win-loss card.
Joshua Yerro and Joem Sabandal led Adamson with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Jhon Calisay added nine markers.
In the post-game press conference, the Soaring Falcons, through AdU Athletic DIrector Fr. Aldrin Suan, CM confirmed that Jerom Lastimosa suffered a full ACL tear in his left knee.
Lastimosa, last season’s PSBankable Player of the Season, though, remains upbeat about his UAAP career not ending in his own terms, saying it is normal for athletes and he will now shift his focus on his path to return to the court.
The 25-year-old Dumaguete-native is set to graduate with a degree in Sports Management next year. His jersey number 7 was retired during the University’s Pep Rally for the loyalty he has shown to AdU.
Adamson will return this November 4 against University of Santo Tomas at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
