The Soaring Falcons continue proving that they remain contenders in the UAAP 86 Men’s Basketball Tournament as they down season hosts University of the East, 72-65, last October 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Defense was the name of the game in the first half as Adamson did not allow UE any field goal in the second frame, all while draining their own baskets. AdU ended the first half with a 12-point lead punctuated by a booming trey from Matty Erolon.
UE, though, unleashed a huge run in the third canto led by a barrage of threes from Rey Remogat. Adamson went toe-to-toe, however, ending the quarter at 53-50.
Adamson weathered another Red Warrior run in the final quarter but timely hits from Joem Sabandal and Didat Hanapi secured them a safe lead punctuated by a three-point score from Mathew Montebon.
Montebon led the Falcons with 13 points, while Ced Manzano also tallied 13 to go with five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
With the win, the Falcons level with De La Salle University at 3-2 with two more matches to go in the first round.
The blue and white team face Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws on the same venue this October 18.
