The Lady Falcons settled for a silver finish in the Shakey’s Super League as they bowed to the De La Salle University Lady Spikers in three sets, 19-25, 22-25, 17-25, in the game three of their best-of-three championship series held last August 13 at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
Newly minted team captain Lucille Almonte led the way for Adamson with her 11 points off nine attacks and two services, while Lorene Toring and Ayesha Juegos had eight markers apiece.
With the win, the young San Marcelino crew secured the silver medal of the tournament, their first chip after numerous changes on the team in the previous months. The Lady Falcons ended with a bronze medal last year.
Adamson opened the game with guns blazing, overwhelming their foes from Taft early with an 11-8 lead. But La Salle launched an 11-2 blast to steal the set and build momentum.
The Lady Falcons then forced a tough second against the reigning UAAP titlists after going down early 7-18, cutting the lead to one in the latter part of the set before they were cut-off by the Lady Spikers attacks which ended the set.
The JP Yude-mentored team tried to remain in the game with La Salle but were eventually grounded by La Salle midway of the third frame.
The team’s new starting setter Angelica Alcantara acted as the silver lining after being hailed as the tournament’s best setter.
