The University’s Football Team formally made their debut in the Copa Paulino Alcantara after a tight 2-0 defeat against the Davao Aguilas-UMak FC at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, July 16.
It was an offensive struggle for the Falcons as they fail to score in their first match in the Philippine Football Federation-sanctioned competition.
Their defense, however, was another story as they stood toe-to-toe with a professional club before surrendering a 58th-minute goal.
Davao’s Kart Talaroc shot a long ball towards the net that was saved by Falcons’ keeper Andrew Nalog, but the ball rolled towards Serge Kaole who broke the deadlock and gave the lead to the Aguilas.
Talaroc and Kaole were once again instrumental in another goal for Davao as they link up to set Rendon Cielo score to give their team a 2-0 lead.
The boys from San Marcelino tried to mount a comeback in the latter minutes of the match but the Aguilas backline held their attacks.
Despite an early setback, the winning team had good things to the young Falcons.
"Even [though] we won on paper, we were more senior than them, Adamson really worked hard. They got us in the first half, and we have to adjust during halftime for us to survive the second half," said Davao manager Aber Ruzgal.
Kaole, meanwhile, admitted that the Falcons gave them a hard time on the pitch despite having less experience.
Adamson will next face Tuloy FC on July 29 at the same venue.
