A student from the College of Architecture flung out San Marcelino’s blue and white in the Metro Architects Xcellence (MAX) Outstanding Students' Awards as she bagged the Second-Best Thesis Award in the competition.

Angelae Borja’s study titled Biyaya ng Basura: A Proposed Center for Plastic Waste Management and Filipino Entrepreneurship just missed the top prize, as she trailed the representative of the University of Batangas. Ar. Jasmin Lee served as Borja’s thesis adviser.

The said design competition involves the best thesis entries from each of the ten participating schools, including University of Santo Tomas, Far Eastern University, National University, University of Batangas, University of Perpetual Help System-Calamba, University of the Philippines - Diliman, Mapua University and National College of Science and Technology-Dasmarinas among others.  The event was hosted by one of the United Architects of the Philippines – Manila Metro Chapter led by its Chapter President Ar. Danny Ko.

The oral presentation and defense were held last June 29 at the Gloria Maris Seafood Restaurant, presided over by five distinguished jurors from the Philippines' top architecture firms - JSLA and WTA among others.

The announcement of winners and awarding, together with certificates of appreciation to participating schools through their College Administrative heads/deans/chairs, were also held and given on the same day during the organization’s General Membership Meeting.
