Startup development for “positive impact” highlighted as AdUNEST holds Technopreneurship Summit 2023

Adamson University continues to be at the forefront of technopreneurial endeavors in the country.  

AdU, through the Innovation and Technology Support Office - Adamson University Neo Science and Technology Incubation Center (ITSO – AdUNEST INC), once again served as host and organizer of the Technopreneurship Summit 2023 held last April 28 at the Co Po Ty Hall of the Dr. Carlos Tiu Center for Technology Innovation and Research.  

The event carried the theme Unlocking New Frontiers and Embracing Emerging Technologies for Positive Change and brought experts and enthusiasts to discuss leveraging emerging technologies for positive change, wherein each had opportunities to share insights on different topics such as blockchain technology to artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things.  

University President Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM welcomed the event participants, reminding each to be in active participation of technopreneurship revolution that has continued to spread among industries and the academe.  

An opening statement from Ms. Russell Pili, Chief of the Department of Science and Technology Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development Research Information and Technology Transfer Division (DOST-PCIEERD-RITTD) quickly followed. Ms. Pili explained the importance of the startup ecosystem, especially in the Philippine setting.  

Department of Information and Communications Technology ICT Industry Development Bureau (DICT-IIDB) Director Emmy Lou Delfin, the event’s Keynote Speaker then presented scholarship grants that may be availed by qualified personalities, as well as different projects aiming to develop tech startups in the country.  

Various talks on propagating and developing startups through different means and media then followed.  

Ms. Maria Raisa Helga Ysaac Orbon, Chief Marketing Officer of Packetworx, expounded on the topic on how the Internet of Things can help startups thrive in a post-pandemic era. Meanwhile, Mr. Eli Becislao, Managing Partner of The BLOKC, talked about blockchain technology and immersion.   

Another discussion featured Ms. Cherry Murillon, CEO and Founder of industry-agnostic artificial intelligence solution firm CAWIL.AI, sharing her journey as an AI industry technopreneur from being a researcher. Arch. Joy Dawis-Asuncion, Assistant City Administrator of the City Government of Manila, on the other hand, presented the plans and development programs of the City of Manila to create the Manila ICE HUB (Manila Innovation and Creatives and Entrepreneurship HUB), which would help the technopreneurship/startup community and aspiring technology startup founders.   

A panel discussion with guest panelist SCALE NCR Representative and Mirriam College Innovation Resource Manager Ms. Ma. Cristina Ibanez was then conducted, wherein panel members encouraged the participants to join the technopreneurship revolution to “help the country’s development.”  

The said roundtable activity was moderated by Mr. Paolo Rentero, co-founder of startup consulting firm TechShake.  

A message from Dr. Venusmar Quevedo, Vice President for Administrative Affairs and AdU ITSO Manager marked the end of the forum.  

In her remarks, Dr. Quevedo urged participants – practitioners and students alike – to embrace innovation in emerging technologies to create new products and services for positive impact  

The event was held in partnership with SCALE NCR, a consortium of schools with technology business incubation centers. The consortium was represented by AdU ITSO IP Commercialization Head Engr. Noe Enriquez and SCALE NCR Lead Engr. Shearyl Arenas.  

The Technopreneurship Summit successfully showcased emerging technologies’ potential for positive change and made participants and organizers alike look forward to similar events like this in the future, where each can continue exploring new frontiers and embracing emerging technologies to impact the world positively.
