The University continues to be one of the country’s softball hotbeds, producing most of the members of the Philippine Blu Girls who finished fourth and secured a XVII World Baseball Softball Confederation Women’s Softball World Cup berth from the 2023 Women’s Softball Asia Cup held last April 2 to April 8 in Incheon, South Korea.

Lady Falcons Glory Alonzo, Khrisha Cantor, Danica Aquino, Angelu Gabriel, Ezra Jalandoni, MJ Maguad, Elsie dela Torre, Aliza Pichon and Alaiza Talisik donned the national colors in the said tourney, which saw them face the likes of top-ranked teams like Japan and Chinese Taipei.

Adamson alumna Arianne Vallestero also bolstered the PH lineup that also has the 10-peat UAAP champs’ head coach Ana Santiago as one of its deputies.

The Blu Girls finished the competition with wins over Hong Kong (7-0), South Korea (2-0), Thailand (10-0), Singapore (8-1) and India (10-0).

They, however, yielded to Chinese Taipei (0-5), China (2-6) and Japan (1-9) who are considered as among the worlds’ bests in the event, and end up with a 5-3 win-loss card. Japan and China are seated at 2nd and 3rd in the world rankings, while China is at 13th.

The PH team reached the semi-finals, which ensured them a slot in the World Cup, but once again succumbed to Chinese Taipei (5-10) despite a fine effort from the girls.

Philippines has been drafted to Group C, which features the likes of Japan, World #8 Italy, #4 Canada, #22 Venezuela and #28 New Zealand.

The said group games will be played in Castions di Strada and Buttrio, Italy on July 22 to 26.
