The Lady Falcons made quick work of Ateneo de Manila University, 25-23, 25-17, 26-24, to remain solo second in the UAAP 85 Women's Volleyball tournament, April 1, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Adamson, though, had to go toe-to-toe with Ateneo in the first and third sets after the Oliver Almadro-mentored squad turned a vintage performance that eventually went for naught.
The Lady Falcons successfully countered a big run from the Blue Eagles in the third set, which saw Ateneo’s Be Lomocso register three services aces and a successful coach’s challenge from Almadro.
Back-to-back hits from Trisha Tubu and Lucille Almonte then closed out the match, continuing Adamson’s win streak to three.
"We used the timeout, and meron pa namang isang puntos bago sila mag-tie. I’m trying to relay na walang pressure [and laro] lang, relax," Lady Falcons Head Coach Jerry Yee said on his call on the latter parts of the match.
The Lady Falcons upped their record to seven wins and two losses, while posting their first elimination round head-to-head sweep of Ateneo since UAAP 71.
Kate Santiago led Adamson’s attack with 18 points and nine digs, while Tubu had 17. Lorene Toring and Ckyle Tagsip chipped in nine and seven points, respectively.
Almonte, meanwhile, was all over the court, posting 16 excellent receptions, eight digs and eight points.
Adamson will try to get back against their first round tormentors, National University, once UAAP competitions resume this April 12.
