The Lady Falcons recovered from a forgettable first set to score an 11-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-22 win over UST in the UAAP 85 Women’s Volleyball tournament held March 25 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
Unlike their first-round matchup which ended via a straight-set sweep, Adamson had to fend off a gallant stand from the Espana-based squad.
Tied at 21in the fourth frame, Kate Santiago powered two consecutive attacks that were answered by a Ren Penafiel drop ball. An attack attempt from UST’s Regina Jurado then failed to go over the net to get the Lady Falcons at a 24-22 match point.
Trisha Tubu then punched a kill through her blockers to seal the match.
"Hindi naman magpapatalo ang UST buti nakuha pa rin namin," Lady Falcons head coach Jerry Yee said.
“First set medyo kulang, buti nagrespond yung team second to fourth.”
UST opened the match with guns blazing, securing a 25-11 first set, but the Lady Falcons were able to retain their composure and secure a 25-21 second set and 25-13 third set against their fellow final four contenders.
Tubu produced 21 points built on 15 attacks and six blocks, while Lucille Almonte and Santiago each had nine markers.
With the win, Adamson improved its record to a 6-2 win-loss card and rose to solo second in the tournament.
The girls from San Marcelino aim for their third straight dub next April 2 against Ateneo de Manila University at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
