Adamson’s domination in the UAAP softball scene saw a sudden hiccup as the Lady Falcon batters yielded to University of the Philippines, 3-2, in a battle of attrition which lasted for 11 innings, February 26 at the UP Diliman Baseball Field.
Both teams sported undefeated records before the match, which served as a preview of the UAAP 85 Softball Tournament Finals matchup.
Adamson saw their foes load the bases at the bottom of the 11th inning. UP first baseman Martine Francisco then hit a grounder to shortstop Angelu Gabriel, who flipped the ball to first base. The ball, however, could not make it to home plate for the double play as Aila Subaldo secured the walk-off win.
The Lady Falcons also had the chance to convert a go-ahead run at the top of the 11th, but senior Jenette Rusia, who was at scoring position in third base, failed to capitalize on a Roma Cruz fly to center field with just one out.
Unfortunately for Adamson, first baseman Elsie dela Torre suffered a left knee injury during a fielding sequence during the 10th inning. The game also saw no-relief assistance for pitchers Glory Alonzo of Adamson and Kacelyn Valino of UP.
