The Baby Falcons are soaring high.
Adamson’s Boys Basketball team eked out a 72-64 victory over round one tormentors and reigning champions Nazareth School of National University in the UAAP 85 Juniors Basketball Tournament held February 14 at Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
With the win, the Baby Falcons extended their winning streak to nine straight, and not only avenged their opening day defeat but also secured them the top spot in the eliminations and the first seat of the competitions’ final four.
"There's a prize kapag nasa top ka. Lahat ng nasa ibaba, ikaw ang target. Ang sabi ko sa [team], maging consistent lang tayo, who knows? Sinong mag-aakala na magna-number one kami?," head coach Mike Fermin said.
Adamson established a comfortable separation at the end of the third canto, 57-45 but the team of Jhocson Street tried to mount a comeback and reduced their lead to four at 68-64 with more than a minute remaining.
The San Marcelino squad, though, averted a repeat of their lone defeat with a two-point conversion and two bigtime freebies from Vince Reyes with less than 50 seconds left.
"Fortunately, sa dulo kumapit,” Fermin quipped when asked about their crucial win.
“We had three turnovers na crucial that [NSNU] converted to six points. We were up by 11 so baba ng lima kaagad. So, sabi ko, huwag bibitaw. Kapag naitawid ang bola, huwag magmamadali. Mabuti kumapit ang mga bata. Hat's off to them."
Peter Rosillo led the Baby Falcons with 22 points and five rebounds, while Reyes had a 13-10 double-double.
Adamson will next face University of the East this February 19 at the same venue.
