A big double-double performance from Vince Reyes towed the Baby Falcons to an 87-51 romp of University of the East in the UAAP 85 Boys Basketball Tournament held February 1 at the Filoil EcoOil Center in San Juan.
Reyes tallied 26 points and 11 rebounds to go along with six steals as Adamson went on to grab their fifth straight victory.
After narrow season-opening loss to the Bullpups, the San Marcelino squad have bounced back are now seated at a tie with FEU-Diliman for second to third place.
"Yung nangyari po noon, malaki ang natutunan namin sa NU. Tumatakbo sa isip namin yun pero sabi ng mga coaches namin, kalimutan namin iyon dahil tapos na po," Reyes said during the post-game interview.
"Pero yung mga aral po na napulot namin doon, ina-apply po namin sa ginagawa namin. Tsaka hindi po kami puwedeng magpakampante dahil wala po kaming napapatunayan kaya tuloy-tuloy lang po," he added.
It was complete Adamson control throughout the game as Coach Mike Fermin’s boys outscored UE by at least nine points in the last three quarters. Adamson also outrebounded their foes, 57-33.
Matt Edding posted a near double-double with eight markers and 13 boards for the Baby Falcons while Justin Garcia had 11 points and four steals.
Despite his team’s streak, Fermin wanted his wards to remain focused in every game especially with their final first round matchup against Ateneo de Manila University on February 5.
"Mentally going to that game, prepared dapat sila kasi ayokong pumasok sa utak nila na that we have this five-game winning streak. Hindi dapat ilagay nila sa utak iyon. Malagay nila sa utak nila na one game at a time," he said.
"Last game of the first round is on Sunday, so ‘yon ang focus."
