The Baby Falcons nearly made an opening day upset but a fourth quarter collapse led them to bow to reigning titlists Nazareth School of National University, 76-79, at the UAAP 85 Boys’ Basketball Tournament held at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan, January 15.
Adamson led 61-49 after three periods, but a 15-30 Bullpup barrage in the final canto gave them their first defeat of the season.
The win was NSNU’s 28th straight victory, spanning from their dynastic run in UAAP 81.
A furious NSNU run cut the Baby Falcons’ lead to two, 72-70, with a little more than three minutes to go.
AdU’s Justine Garcia then traded buckets with NSNU stalwarts Reinhard Jumamoy and RJ Colonia before the Bullpups closed out the game off a split from Colonia.
Garcia paced the Baby Falcons with 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while Carlo Bonzalida delivered 14 markers and nine boards.
