Fr. Rolando dela Goza, CM was recognized by the University of Santo Tomas, and the UST Alumni Association, Inc., as one of its Distinguished Alumni during ceremonies held last November 27.

The first Filipino President of Adamson University received the award under the UST Graduate School where he finished his Doctorate in History.

“Many Vincentians also studied in UST but I was one of those lucky enough to get chosen as one of the distinguished alumni, together with Cardinal Advincula,” Fr. Dela Goza said in an interview with the Adamson News.

“This is [also] a good indication of the good relationship between the Vincentians and Dominicans because more than half our priests before the Saint Vincent School of Theology [was established] studied in UST for their theological formation,” he furthered.

The former Provincial Visitor of the Congregation of the Mission’s Philippine Province also lauded other Vincentians whom he regarded as deserving of receiving the awards of the same degree as what he obtained.

“Vincentians would appreciate awards like this but personally I never thought of receiving such award just because I became Provincial [Visitor], President [of Adamson University] or I was sent to Rome. But any Vincentian who does his job – to be a missionary, a professor or a parish priest – are worthy of an award [with the same level], although may take time,” he said.

The Outstanding Thomasian Alumni (TOTAL) Award is the highest honor bestowed by UST USTAAI upon an alumni, “in recognition of their significant and exemplary contribution to the society and the Church.”
