Dr. Ruben Nayve, Dean of the College of Business Management and CBA faculty Emily Baluyot and Mr Paul Belleza represented the University in the 25th Council of Economics Educators (CECON) National Conference and 4th International Conference on Economic Education in Southeast Asian Nations (ICEE-SEAN) held via ZOOM last November 25 to 26.

Dr. Nayve was the National Chair of the event attended by experts and prominent economist and economics educators, as well as distinguished speakers, namely Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Deputy Governor Dr. Francisco Dakila, CHED Commissioner Aldrin Darilag, DepEd Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio, World Bank Senior Economist Kevin Chua and UPLB Chancellor Dr. Jose Camacho.

Also in the event were foreign resource speakers include Mr Phann Bunnath (Cambodia), Prof. David Lee (Singapore), Dr Hooy Chee Wooi  (Malaysia) and Dr Yong Yoon (Thailand).

Attendees of the said event carrying the theme "CECON 25 Years in Economics Education: Issues, Challenges and Opportunities in a Global Post Pandemic Era" include faculty and students from various HEI and SHS in the country and abroad.

Aside for the parallel sessions, participants were provided the chance to network with the foreign speakers from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and Malaysian Economic Association, Malaysia. Both institutions extended support to CECON for future collaborations in terms of research, faculty and student exchanges, webinars and related activities.

The two-day event also featured ceremonies of awarding an Outstanding Economics Faculty and signing of Memorandum of agreement between the said organization and select HEIs -- Adamson University, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture and Holy Cross of Davao College.

During the event, Dr. Baluyot was awarded Outstanding Economics Faculty. Currently the Chair of the Finance/Economics Department of the University for two years, she holds an MA and PhD in Economics from the University of Santo Tomas.

In a rubric by CECON, the panel composed of industry and government business leaders based on criteria set as Academic Qualifications (30%), Performance Evaluation (30%),  Trainings and Seminars (10%), Research (10%), Community Outreach (10%) and Current Position (10%).

Dr Veronica Bayangos (Director, BSP - public sector), Dr Alvin Ang (Research Director, Ateneo de Manila University - academe), and Dr Enrico Torres (HMR Group of Companies - industry sector) adjudged for the conferment of the said award.
