Another faculty member has received a research grant from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIERD) as Ar. Fredinel Banaag of the College of Architecture was recently awarded a Balik Scientist Program Grant.
This feat is considered the first to be given such funding among more than 100+ Architecture programs in the Philippines.
The six-month grant focuses on the researcher’s studies on enhancement of “HEI’s capability on innovative building materials, components and systems on new pedagogical, and other research and creative methodologies relevant to industrial design and building architecture.”
The same engagement will also assist in addressing the problems on affordability and quality of socialized housing, especially those in disaster-struck areas. Phase 1 is expected to run from November to December 2021, while Phase 2 is slated from June to October 2022.
Arki Dean Sylvester Shaun Seno also revealed that the said study is expected to yield curriculum and technology updates, inter-University collaboration plans and development programs. He added it will also serve as foundation for new architecture-related graduate programs to be established in the University.
Ar. Banaag finished his Master's Degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT) in Melbourne, Australia and postgraduate course from Fukui University, Japan. He was a board topnotcher, GSIS National Art Competition winner in Sculpture, author of various e-books on Architectural Technology and consultant for the World Bank.
