The boys from the blue and white did it again.

Team JaBLUE representing the University bagged the Aesthetics and Originality Award of the Bridge Building Competition held during the National Civil Engineering Summit, which spanned from August 4 to September 25.

The team made up of Civl Engineering students Jared Ashley Aldaba, Ruel Andrew Oli and Rozuell Josh Velasco presented their mock-up they called the Royal Point Bridge, a 30-meter long bridge with a 9-meter width named after the design’s inspiration, Queen Elizabeth’s British Crown Jewels.

“The unique thing about this truss bridge is that it uses two arcs that meet into the one to form an aesthetically pleasing design,” the team explained. “”The materials used to create the design are also economically well-planned and provide great stability and strength.”

Their blueprint which Team Ja BLUE described as “not only for show and economy but is also strong enough to last for generations to come” bested other proposals made by 30 other teams from 17 schools for the recognition.

The said contest asked participants to draft a bridge design that would link two barangays initially connected by a hanging wooden one. The plans must feature a steel truss bridge reinforced to support vehicles that would improve transportation in the said areas.
